This was a really cool post I saw on Sharron R. McMillan’s blog, “Hernibs“. Even though this isn’t my own photograph, post, or idea, I still wanted to show you guys! The woods seem joyous when spring arrives, and come fall, they feel as though they are about to have a humble ending. Winter is coming!

Honoring the Men and Women of 9/11

Hello everybody!

I know I already posted today, but before the end of the day I just wanted to give my thanks to all those 911 men and women who gave their lives in the defense of this country. Even though some aren’t alive to see this post, I still would like to give my gratitude towards them.

However, there are still some men and women who spent many long days helping against the attack on this country and they are still living today. I would also like to give my thanks and gratitude to those who stood in the face of fear and conquered it. People spent hours working in fires and smoke to end 911, and they are worthy of honor. My thanks go to you today.

I hope that we continue to have brave men and women who are willing to give everything they have on the front lines. We will need them…

If you know somebody who helped stop 911 from going farther, please give them your thanks today, whether it be a letter, phone call, or in person, please let them know how grateful you are.

Thank you.

Project: 4 Seasons

Hey everyone! In my last post I told you about a year-long project I would start in mid-September. It is time to start….

P4S

At this point you’re probably wondering what Project 4 Seasons is. Project 4 Seasons, I think, is a really unique experience and will show you guys the month by month change that happens over a year in the woods. Now, if you wanted, you could do this on your own, but a lot of people don’t have the time to do so. Also, some people may not have deep woods to go in. However, with Project 4 Seasons they will still be able to see the change.

To accomplish this, I will go into my woods on the 14th of every month and take a picture from a spot I really like! It will be the same spot every month. I will then publish the picture with a few words thrown in.

The person who gave me this idea was my dad, and I thought about it, and realized, that is a great idea! Also, to my knowledge, no one has ever done it before. Basically, in a year from now, which is hard to imagine, I will create a photo collage video and literally show you the yearly change in the woods in a 1 minute synopsis. Pretty cool right?

Be sure to tell all of your friends, bosses, co-workers, and family so they can follow this change as well! Teachers, if you are teaching ecosystems or forest-related things, this might be an excellent thing to show your students. They may not get to see the full, year-long synopsis, but they will get to see most of it!

*** Also, if you have a Facebook, Twitter, or Google+, then please take 2 minutes of your day to share this page with all of your followers and friends you follow. There are sharing buttons at the end of this page for you to do that. It will mean a lot to me and will really help me grow my blog, meaning the time I put into Project 4 Seasons will be greatly rewarded and returned. ***

Let me know what you guys think of this idea and of any ideas or questions you have. I will be more than happy to consider, and possibly do, any idea I receive.

Keep calm and track on!

Quote of the Month

Hey everyone! I’ve decided that I want to have a quote of the month. I will have every quote posted on the 1st of every month. The reason I came to starting this idea is that it will give me more time to put into other posts, and it still will draw a lot of visitors.

Now, I need to make sure you guys know this or you might start getting pretty turned off with my quotes after awhile 🙂 . A LOT of them will be from Tom Brown Jr. and his books! I would like to vary the authors of my quotes up a bit, and there are other good quotes out there, but as far as wilderness survival and nature go, he easily has some of the best!!

So I’ve made the quote of the month, Scout, for September, and y’all can be expecting another one October 1st! Thanks everyone, and I hope you like this idea!

Keep calm and track on!

P. S. Expect a year-long project to begin sometime around mid-September! 😉

Scout

“To the scout, each day is filled with adventure, excitement, intensity, and play. Life is a huge playpen, waiting for the scout to break routine and move out of context, becoming invisible to everyone. Wilderness becomes his home, and the life of society becomes his wilderness…”

— Tom Brown Jr., The Way of the Scout
